One of the biggest benefits of working in IT is that people are generally pretty friendly. Being female in a technical role can have its challenges, but if you’re good at your job, it’s never a problem for long.

My principal advice to people interested in getting into a technology career is to complete a university qualification such as a Bachelor Information Technology, focusing on practical technical skills if you want a technical role.

My role is essentially to ensure the integrity of the database, that it performs well and is recoverable. To be a great DBA you need skills in problem-solving quickly and effectively under pressure. It definitely doesn’t hurt to enjoy being on call 24x7 either!
